Sunday 18th February - Round 4 Cumulative Results Attached

72 holes resulted with two players were tied for the lead, in the men’s field, requiring a playoff to determine the winner of the Mount Maunganui Golf Club Rosebowl the trophy for the 19th Grant Clements Memorial Golf Tournament.

Leading into the final 18 holes Kazuma Kabori (Rangiora) looked the player to beat.

Unfortunately it was not to be as he fell off the pace scoring a 76 in his final round, however Mathew McLean (Harewood) scored a 2 under to finish on 7 under the card, But there was a Canadian golfer, Joey Savoie, who had other ideas and played 5 under for the final round to also finish 7 under on 281, the same as Matt McLean, hence the playoff.

Both players tee shots found the righthand side rough so pretty even, pressure on the 2nd shots. 
Matt’s 2nd shot to the green finished on the front (bottom) of the green needing a long put whereas Joey Savoie played his 2nd to a handier position.

The put by Matt McLean finished hole high but a testing distance away whereas Joey Savoie’s put missed but only a tap in. Matt missed his testing across the slope. Jang Hyun Lee (Maungakiekie) finished 3rd on 283, followed by 4 players on 284, including Kazuma Kabori (Rangiora), Charlie Smail (Walton), Chris Charlton (Riverside) and Jimmy Zheng (Howick).

The visitor from Lucerne (Switzerland) Alessandro Nosedo played well but a 76 3rd round saw him finish in 17th position on a total of 292.

Well done Damian Kempson (Mt Maunganui)  who finished 27th, playing the last 2 rounds 1 under.
There were 64 par or better rounds played off the black tees.

The NZ Golf District Teams competition between Canterbury, Auckland and North Harbour saw the great scoring by Kabori & McLean, especially in the 3rd round, that saw the Canterbury pair show their superiority over the other teams.

Auckland with a slight lead over North Harbour held on to finish on 567 and ahead of the 574 of North Harbour.The Ladies competition, played off the white tees, was won by Eun Chae Kim (Pupuke) 289 with her nearest challenger, Sato Tajima (Geyserland Junior), who finished on 301 and Hitomi Tamura (Riverside) 303.   4th Boi Gil Choi 305 and 5th Marina Ito (Riverside) 307.

A full field of 99 competed in the tournament that included a number of overseas players including a players for Canada and Switzerland who both play in their national golf teams, bringing an international and along with the players from Korea, China and Japan bring a new international flavour to the tournament.

Sunday 18th February - Round 3

It was a hot and sunny day at the Mount course for the third round of the Grant Clements Memorial Golf Tournament.

Best score of the morning for the Women was carded by Eun Chae Kim (Pupuke) who had an impressive 69, which took her cumulative score to 219, while overnight leader Marina Ito scored 77, to put her back into 2nd place on 226.  Eun Chae Kim now leads the women by 7 shots from Ito, with Sato Tajima (Geyserland Junior) back in 3rd place on 228.  

The men had some great scoring this morning, with the best of the morning from Kazuma Kobori from Rangiora who carded a 67 (31,36).  His playing partners also scored well - Matthew Mclean (Harewood) 68, and Christ Charlton (Riverside) 70.  Kobori now leads the Men by 3 shots on 208, with McLean in 2nd place on 211, on c/b from Lee (Maungakiekie) 211.

Saturday 17th February - Round 2

There were some hot scores out on the course this afternoon, with Charlie Smail carding a 66, taking him into an early lead for the men.  And then Jang Hyun Lee from the Maungakiekie club carded his second 69 of  the day, bringing his total to 138, just one shot ahead of Charlie Smail.  Lee and Smail (Walton) will be joined by Jake Lee (Muriwai), and preceding them off the 1st tee will be Rangiora player Kazuma Kabori (currently also on 141), Chris Charlton from Riverside  and Matthew McLean from Harewood, both on 143.  With the second round of the Grant Clements Memorial Golf Tournament now completed there are only 10 shots separating the top 20 on the leaderboard.

The women contingent from Pupuke are showing some consistent scoring to put pressure on Marina Ito from Riverside, who is leading by just one shot.

It's all to play for tomorrow and should be a great spectator day for those wanting to see some exciting golf from some of the top players in our country and visitors from overseas.
