Bailey Smith Heading to the USAYellow Golf Clubs icon

Bailey Smith has chosen to continue his academic and athletic endeavors as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana men’s golf program, Lion head golf coach Tim Baldwin announced on Thursday.

Smith is the first student-athlete to sign with the Lions during the signing period. The Mount Maunganui, New Zealand native will begin competing for SLU in the 2015-16 season.

Smith is currently ranked among the top 20 amateur golfers in New Zealand and one of the top 700 amateur golfers in the world. In 2014, Smith finished third in the New Zealand Amateur Championship. Baldwin believes his newest addition will be a good fit for his program.

“I’m pleased to announce the signing of Bailey Smith,” Baldwin said. “He is an outstanding young talent and has the ability to shoot low scores. I look forward to Bailey thriving in our environment and being an outstanding student-athlete.”

Smith will join a veteran SLU roster in 2015-16 and will be teaming with close friend and fellow countryman James Anstiss. Though the Lions will be replacing 2015 senior Grady Brame, Smith will join a roster that will be headed by All-Southland Conference performers Eamon Bradley and Lawrence Allan.

Smith’s future teammates will compete for the fifth Southland Conference championship in school history on April 20-22 in McKinney, Texas. Live scoring, provided by the Southland Conference, will be available at LionSports.net.
